Disc Weights and Why It Matters
Drivers:
Recommended: 150–165 grams
Think of these like sports cars: fun, fast, but tricky to handle. Lighter drivers are easier to throw far without needing the arm of Thor. Start light, impress your friends, and maybe only hit some trees.
Too heavy = accidental worm-burner. Too light = unexpected frisbee UFO sighting.
Midrange Discs:
Recommended: 160–175 grams
Midranges are your dependable middle children—stable, loyal, and great for learning control. A little heavier is fine here; they’re not meant to fly to Mordor, just to the basket.
Putters:
Recommended: 170–175 grams
Heavy putters are like weighted blankets—they help you feel stable and secure, especially when nervously putting in front of your disc golf crush. They fly true and don’t get bullied by the wind.
Beginner Wisdom:
- If you throw like a noodle: start closer to 150g.
- Avoid the heaviest drivers (175g+) until your throws stop looking like slow-motion boomerangs.
- Look for starter sets with lighter weights—many brands offer them and they usually come with a side of self-esteem.
