Mastering the Fundamentals: A Disc Golfer’s Guide to Faith and Growth – Hebrews 6:1
Share
Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, - Hebrews 6:1
Stay Grounded in the Basics
Every great disc golfer will tell you the same thing: no matter how advanced you become, the fundamentals always matter. Grip, stance, angle control, and follow-through—these core techniques shape every throw, whether you’re launching off the tee or setting up for par.
When our game starts slipping, doubt creeps in. We abandon what works, scrambling for new techniques, attempting shots we’ve never practiced.
The truth? Success doesn’t come from flashy tricks—it’s built on solid fundamentals.
Faith Connection: Back to the Gospel Basics
Just like in disc golf, our walk with Christ flourishes when we remain rooted in the essentials. Before deep theology, ministry leadership, or bold steps of faith—it all starts with the unchanging foundation of the Gospel.
We never outgrow the Good News. Instead, we need to stand firm in the core truths that define our faith:
✅ Jesus loves you
✅ He died for your sins
✅ You are saved by grace through faith
✅ You are a new creation in Him
The moment we drift from these foundational truths, we risk falling into deception and misplaced confidence.

Appreciate both of your comments! It’s so easy to allow our excitement and desire to grow blind us from them the simple fundamentals! Oh how I wish I could go back and keep the main thing the main thing!
I thought this was a great devotion. So much so, I used it for our staff meeting at the church. We definitely need to be reminded of the fundamentals and the value of those fundamentals so that we can grow and build on the perfect foundation that we have as we construct and develop a nice and comfortable home to live in and show off!
So much good doctrine in Hebrews. When times are tough, “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”
